As stated in the mission of the Institute, there are a number of co-curricular and extra curricular activities that are organized for the students. Various support services are also provided to enhance overall performance of the student fraternity, as well as to bring about their holistic development.
CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
Lectures by Eminent faculties
Lectures by Eminent Faculties: Educationists and Industrialists specializing in different fields of study are invited from time to time to deliver lectures on topics related to the curriculum & syllabi.
Seminar / Symposium: The college conducts various seminars for its students on wide ranging topics such as 'Emerging Issues to Empower Women' and 'Environmental Issues: Achieving a Sustainable Future'. Eminent personalities from all walks of life are invited to present their ideas to the students and faculty. Such events are singularly remarkable in bringing new ideas and innovations into the academic world. They promote research and encourage the students to enquire further about the knowledge gained. Students imbibe various organizational skills during these events as they work closely with faculty members to make it a success.
Workshop on Soft Skills & Personality Development: The changing dynamics of the job market necessitate workshops for students to enhance confidence and competence. With this aim in mind, a workshop on soft skills and personality development is being organized. Public speaking is encouraged, confidence instilled and communication skills improved. To bring about a change in attitude and inculcate a positive approach towards life, presentations and film shows are arranged.
Internship Training: The internship programme in the final year for Home Science graduates & post-graduates and in the second year for B.Com graduates is one of the most significant aspects of the courses offered by the Institute. During this training, students are sent to various premier organizations in their relevant field of study to gain practical experience and apply their classroom teaching to real life situations
Bridge & Remedial Courses: Academic issues are dealt with right at the entry level and Bridge and Remedial courses are conducted for the academically weak students in specific areas. Students are also provided with guidance for higher education as well as in their choice of careers.
Projects & Seminar / Presentations by Students: Paper presentations / seminars on various subjects etc. are an essential part of the curriculum designed by the Institute. These help acquaint the students with techniques of public speaking in addition to providing them with the foundation for future research work. Such assignments help students in self-analysis and appraisal, while providing additional motivation for better performance.
Placement: Various companies approach the Institute from time to time for recruitment of students and conduct campus interviews for the same. Also many companies and organizations where students undergo their internship have shown keen interest in hiring some of them after the completion of their graduation programmes.
Social Services: Social awareness and social responsibility are instilled in the students by generating awareness about Environmental and Health Issues and Extension Services. The Institute also has a unit of the National Service Scheme (NSS) comprising 100 students each, under banner of Jadavpur University. These groups are engaged, in various social services and developmental schemes such as visits to NGOs and homes for destitute children, women and the aged.
Educational Excursions: Students are taken for pleasure trips accompanied by faculty members during the puja / winter vacation. Educational excursions to each field of study are organized for the final year students. As a follow-up, students have to prepare reports and / or presentations on the information gathered during such outings.
EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
Annual Show: The College organizes an Annual Show where meritorious students are awarded by the management every year. Cultural items also allow the students to display their talent and creativity
Annual Sports: An annual Sports Day is held every year for encouraging physical activity.
Inter Departmental Debate: To augment public speaking skills and enhance awareness and analytical skills in students, inter-departmental debates are organized.
Exhibition: To promote the work of the students, exhibitions open to both family and friends are regularly held.
Book Bazar: To inculcate the habits of library work, research and life-long learning, a Book Bazar is organized for the benefit of students. Publishers offer a variety of book for sale at discounted rates.
Celebrations: Events such as Saraswati Puja and Independence Day are celebrated on campus to unite students in a common bond of worship and patriotic fervor.
